The Power of Cloud Deployment

Deploying the power of the cloud

CLOUD DEPLOYMENT

In my previous post, I discussed the nature of cloud based technology and some of the benefits of its implementation. In this post, I’d explore how cloud based technologies are implemented, and how they can serve the needs of a company and its customers.

Cloud technologies can be implemented in different ways. In fact, you probably use cloud based technologies every day. The e-mail account that is easily accessible from an iPhone or a desktop PC. The virtual desktop you use to work from home. The mobile game or app that instantly downloads to your new phone after your old one was damaged. These are all examples of simple cloud based technologies, run by other companies and shared by you and many others.

I would like to focus my attention on the next level cloud technology model, often referred to as “Platform as a Service” or PaaS.

In the PaaS model, cloud providers deliver a computing platform, including an operating system, programming language execution environment, database, and web server. All the things you look for in a cumbersome network are available to you without wires. Application developers can develop and run their software solutions on a cloud platform without the cost and complexity of buying and managing the underlying hardware and software layers. With some PaaS offers like Microsoft Azure and Google App Engine, the underlying computer and storage resources scale automatically to match application demand so that the cloud user does not have to allocate resources manually.

THE CLOUD ADVANTAGE

PaaS based cloud systems provide:

Innovation – Want to manage social media and inventory at the same time? In the cloud you can. Because cloud based systems are freed from the restrictions of hardware and software, it is easier to create solutions that can enhance and integrate with your existing systems.

Mobility – Want to take advantage of the mobile revolution? Using the cloud means that you can take your technology to your customers with custom mobile solutions can take the place of costly generic software packages.

Adaptability– Maybe your company is growing and you need to expand your capabilities quickly, without interrupting your operations. Cloud based solutions allow your company to add the capacity needed without having to invest in costly infrastructure. Best of all because the space is virtual and not physical, it is much cheaper.

Security – How many of us have waited to update our anti-virus or firewall software because we were too busy. When using physical hardware, your system security is only as strong as your last update, with the cloud updates can be made continuously in the background. Your system stays safe, and you can keep working.

Affordability – By removing the need to maintain physical servers, you can focus on your business. Instead of hiring an in-house IT maintenance person, that cost is amortized over numerous accounts to save you money.

So as you can see, there are many benefits to embracing the power of the cloud.
